Air Quality Committee & Terms of Reference

  
The City of Revelstoke invites applications from residents to serve as members on the Air Quality Committee. Council is looking to select 5 members of the Public who will be appointed to the Committee for their interest, previous experience, knowledge, skills and ability to represent the population of the municipality. A copy of the Terms of Reference can be seen below or can be picked up at the Administration Department of City Hall.

  Terms of Reference:

PURPOSE

This Committee will assess the state of the air quality in the Revelstoke region in a way that considers the needs of all residents and provide recommendations to hopefully improve air quality.

ROLE OF AN AIR QUALITY COMMITTEE

  • Provide recommendations for improvements of air quality to be presented to City Council.

  • To assess the current state of air quality and air monitoring in the community and research other monitoring options.

  • To look into grant opportunities and funding sources to assist in meeting the goals outlined herein.

  • Develop community outreach strategies to educate and receive input about air quality issues.

  • Review the air quality issues and recommendations identified in the City’s Environmental Strategy.

THE GOAL

  • To improve Revelstoke air quality.

  • To ensure this air quality project is a collaborative effort, involving all levels of government, industry and citizens.

  • To ensure sustained municipal support for improving air quality.

  • Work towards implementation of the Environmental Strategy as it pertains to air quality.

DURATION

It is expected that the committee will report out to Council within one (1) year.

TIMELINE/TASKS

To be determined by the Committee

STRUCTURE AND CONDUCT OF BUSINESS

  • Public positions will be advertised and appointed by Council.

  • Committee will make decisions by consensus but failing that, normal committee procedures will apply.

  • Committee will elect a chairperson from the members who will serve in such capacity for a one-year term.

  • Committee will use a City facility for meetings.

  • Everyone on the committee is equal.

  • The committee will meet once a month at a regular time or as deemed necessary by the members.

  • Highways representative (resource person as needed)

  • Forestry representative (resource person as needed)

  • Railway representative

  • Ski Hill development representative

  • Health board representative (resource person as needed)

  • WLAP Ministry worker (resource person as needed)

  • City hall secretary (resource person)

  • 5 Members of the Public
