With the Mt. Mackenzie Resort development moving ahead, City Council has
decided to add some badly needed horsepower in the Planning Department.
Council has approved the
hiring of a Director of Planning Services to ensure the City can meet
the growing demands of growth and development in Revelstoke. In recent
years the City Planner and his staff have been over worked due to the
limited resources available.
Chief Administrative
Officer, Don DeGagne stated “the Planning Department is only going to
get busier and now is the time to make this positive move.” He added
that “one of the primary objectives is to hire a seasoned Planner with
resort experience to complement the existing staff and improve service
to the public.”
Mayor Mark McKee said
“the time has come to add some additional capacity so that we are truly
prepared for the onslaught of development activity.” He added “the
status quo is not sustainable nor is it fair to expect any more effort
from the existing staff considering the circumstances.”
It is hoped that
interviews will take place in mid-November with a Council decision by
the end of the month. If all goes smoothly, the new position could start
employment with the City early in the new year.
Ads for the position
will be posted locally, through CivicInfo (a BC municipal website), the
Planning Institute of BC and several periodicals in major US resort
areas.
