| This Department is responsible for the administration of a wide range of plans, policies, programmes and regulations pertaining to physical, social and economic development. These responsibilities include:

- Provides front end information, analyses and advice to Council and to the public on matters relating to physical, social and economic issues that affect the community.
- Develops long range plans, policies and development strategies to provide a framework for current Council decisions.
- Solicits and co-ordinates efforts of other departments and outside agencies in the implementation of Council's development objectives.
- Performs plan examinations and inspection of all new and renovated buildings to ensure compliance to BC Building and Plumbing Codes. Provides a consultative service to residents to ensure all proposed construction complies with City of Revelstoke's Zoning Bylaw.
- Provides ongoing enforcement to ensure compliance of a wide variety of issues ranging from unsightly premises and parking regulations to animal
control.
- The goals of the Department are to provide direction to Council regarding the well-being of the community and to ensure that changes which occur within the community enhance the quality of life, respect the natural setting, and occur in a manner which is predictable and respectful to the aspirations of residents and businesses.
- This Department attempts to ensure that change is managed effectively, that problems are identified and rectified, and that conflicting opinions respecting change are expressed and resolved to enable Council to make sound decisions.
