NEWS RELEASE

Investigation & Planning the Development of New RCMP Facility

For Immediate Release

October 11, 2000

The City of Revelstoke is proceeding with further investigation and planning respecting the development of a new RCMP facility in the community.

A new facility was identified as a top priority in the 1998 public process to develop a strategic financial management plan. The new RCMP facility is proposed to be constructed in 2001.

City Council has selected a City-owned site at Third Street and Campbell Avenue as the preferred location. Earlier this year, the City purchased two adjacent properties to accommodate the development at this location. A downtown location was a priority to improve the general police presence in the community and to enhance community policing initiatives.

The City will conduct an Open House later this year to present preliminary development plans and to receive public input.
