Mountain Caribou is an ecotype of the more widespread Woodland Caribou.

These caribou are distinguished by their behavior of migrating upslope in winter to feed on lichens that hang from trees in areas of deep snow in the Columbia Mountains.

Because of their declining numbers, these animals are regarded as a threatened species by both the federal and provincial governments.

The following is a list of sources of information regarding mountain caribou compiled by the Revelstoke Caribou Recovery Committee. This is a committee appointed by the City of Revelstoke to provide assistance to governments and agencies tasked with recovering caribou populations.

Committee members live in the region and represent the range of social, environmental and economic values important to the community.
