AFFORDABLE, SPECIAL NEEDS AND RENTAL HOUSING SECTION 8
Background
8.1 Revelstoke is facing shortages of housing in some key areas of need. The areas of most acute need include seniors, single parent families, young families and persons facing physical challenges. This situation is prevalent in the case of both owned and rental housing and has been demonstrated through recent investigations. The ongoing Revelstoke Healthy Communities Project pointed to the need for both seniors and social housing. Furthermore, regular reporting by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has shown a marked decrease in the availability of all forms of rental housing.
Objectives
8.2 It is Council's objective to encourage the development of affordable, special needs and rental housing in Revelstoke.
Policies
8.3 Council policies are to:
.1 designate land for a range of residential uses and densities within the City.
.2 implement the City's affordable housing strategy with the support of the provincial Ministry of Housing, Recreation and Consumer Services. The purpose of this strategy was to more accurately assess the need for affordable, special needs and rental housing, and to determine how the City may best respond to these needs.
.3 encourage developers to provide affordable and special needs housing as integral components of any residential developments in the City. |
