Although the mystery regarding our “bad” water samples has not been
solved, we have received a letter from the North Okanagan Health Region’s
Chief Medical Officer advising that the contamination must have taken
place AFTER the samples were extracted. There was no failure of our plant
nor in the procedures followed by our staff. Thank you to all for your
assistance in getting through the crisis. It is regrettable that we had to
issue the boil water directive and we understand the terrible
inconvenience that it caused some of our local businesses. The decision
was taken after much deliberation and upon the advise of Dr. Bowering.
Council has planned a short
dedication ceremony at the Gateway Monuments to be held on December 19th
at 11:30 a.m. You are all invited to attend as we unveil the plaques, one
of which commemorates the contribution of Bill Cameron to our
revitalization and our Bear theme.
On Tuesday, Council members
and some staff inspected the new RCMP facility. Work is not yet complete,
but all of the room spaces are defined and the finishing is now taking
place. We plan to have a Public Open House so that all of you are able to
have a look at the completed building. It is, of course, built to very
high standards because of security and safety concerns.
At the Council meeting on
Monday, Councillor Richardson advised that the number of residents using
the Food Bank was definitely on the increase. Please remember the Food
Bank when you consider your holiday giving. In December, the distribution
will consist of the annual Christmas Hamper to those who apply. Give
generously to this local charity.
