With the departure of Thom
Tischik as the Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, the Chamber has
appointed a replacement. City Council welcomes Gerry Gardner as the new
Chamber Of Commerce Executive Director. Gerry has served as the Tourism
Development Coordinator for the last five years and is well versed with
Chamber operations.
City Council has received
the first set of recommendations from the affordable housing committee.
The short term actions that Council has adopted are to hire a consultant
to develop concept and site plans for the Co-op lands, city owned
property in Clearview heights, and city owned property on Basford drive.
These properties will have restrictive covenants limiting purchasers to
people working full time in Revelstoke or who have been residents for a
specified period of time. As well there will be restrictions on the
resale of these properties. Council has directed staff to draft terms of
reference for a not-for-profit affordable housing corporation. Some long
term recommendations Council is acting upon are to apply to the
provincial government for a Free Crown land grant for properties along
East Simpson Street and parcels along Westside road.
Council received a
revised proposal and presentation regarding the development of Westside
Road. While council has always been supportive of development in the
community, we felt that since the current OCP process is underway, we
should wait until it is completed to be better informed as to the best
and highest land use of many areas, including Westside Road.
Council has directed
staff to begin work on the Arrow Heights Sanitary Sewer Collection
system. The four initial tasks are to 1) complete the network design of
the sanitary collection system for existing residents, 2) Divide Arrow
Heights into feasible local service areas 3) estimate costs for the
system for Arrow Heights, each local service area, and per residence and
4) determine the feasibility of the project in light of the City’s
borrowing capacity, expenditure priorities, and the city’s financial
plan.
Council has passed a
motion regarding the rezoning of Mobile home districts, stating “Council
intends to place high importance on the impact the new designation will
have on affordable housing options within Revelstoke and the
displacement of current tenants.”
As well staff is working
with the Affordable housing committee to draft procedures under the
Mobile Home Redevelopment Policy. Mobile Home Park tenant rights are
protected under the Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Act, and that Act is
available to the public free of charge at City hall.
For anyone who is
interested, information about the
Heritage Conservation Area
Project is on the City’s website under ‘Featured Information’ and
