Congratulations to Parks Canada
on the opening of the Nels Nelson Historic Ski jump and cultural trail.
It is an enhancement to our tourism infrastructure and recognizes the
distinguished history of skiing in Revelstoke. Kudos to all those
involved for all the hard work they have put into the project.
Council received a
presentation from the Revelstoke Railway Museum regarding their
strategic planning process for future development and a proposal for a
Canadian Museum Policy that recognizes and supports through sustainable
long term funding traditional, arts, railway and technological museums
to help build communities. The Railway Museum has had a tremendous
effect on our community. Revelstoke’s museums and art centre provide
$285,000 in salaries and wages to individuals within our community.
October is Zero crash
month, a program sponsored by ICBC. Revelstoke’s total resident crashes
for the month of October is 30.6, based on an average from the last five
years. Revelstoke has challenged Merritt to achieve a greater reduction
in crashes for the month. Revelstoke may receive a grant of $18,000 if
we achieve the greatest reduction in the number of crashes in our
community category. Let’s make October a month when we have no resident
crashes!
Council received a
presentation for the Provincial Ombudsmen. This function is available to
individuals or groups who have an unresolved dispute with various
municipal and provincial governing bodies. For more information contact
City Hall.
Congratulations to IHA
for the excellent newly built seniors cottages. These facilities
demonstrate the provinces commitment to the needs of our community and
are much needed.
Council has given three
readings to Anima1 Control Amendment Bylaw 1839 which will relocate the
non-leash area from Downie Marsh to the Greenbelt area on the North side
of the Illecillewaet River. If you have any comments on this bylaw you
are requested to provide them in writing to City Hall before September
29 for Council’s consideration.
Council currently has
vacancies on the Mayors Advisory Committee on Health Care and the
Bicycle Advisory Committee. If you have any interest in either of these
areas you are encouraged to submit your name for membership on these
committees.
In a partnership between
IHA, BC Transit and the City of Revelstoke, a weekly bus trip to Kelowna
and Kamloops for medical appointments is being scheduled. For more
information call 837-3000.
