Council has adopted a Community Heritage Register Admission Policy
developed by the Planning Department and Heritage Commission, which
establishes guidelines for admission to the Register. This voluntary
process allows properties with a Heritage Inventory Evaluation grade of
95 or greater to register; its sole purpose is to perpetuate, protect
and honour Revelstoke’s heritage property.
There has been an
increase in vandalism to city flowerbeds and trees, with damage
appearing to occur in the early morning hours after the bar closes.
Although picking a fight with a tree may seem like a good idea at the
time, the results are costly and disheartening.
Camping on the playing
fields during the Kokanee tournament has caused numerous health and
safety concerns. As a result, Council has passed a motion prohibiting
vehicles and camping on the playing fields.
Council has awarded the
final contract for the Arrow Heights Water Supply infrastructure to
Online Constructors for $709,726.72. This brings the total for this
project to $1,881,761.92 compared to the original budget of
$1,500,000.00. Our consultants have informed us that the high tender
prices are a reflection of the current construction market.
The Planning Department
has reviewed the amended Westside Road Planning Study from Land and
Water B.C. The planning committee has recommended the land south of the
Snowmobile Club parking lot be limited to Service Commercial rather than
Light Industrial, and staff is drafting the Official Community Plan
Amendment Bylaw to designate the area as Urban Reserve.
Beginning on August 30th
Revelstoke Transit will combine the Big Eddy and Columbia Park routes,
which will double the frequency for the area. For further details,
passengers can visit the website at
www.busonline.ca
or pick up the new riders guide on board the bus. All rides are 25 cents
on Friday, September 3, 2004.
We are in receipt of a
letter from Energy Minister Richard Neufeld in regards to our proposal
for taxation of the Revelstoke Dam. He has indicated the Ministry of
Finance and the Crown Agencies Secretariat are reviewing the proposal
and that he expects that the work will be completed by the 2005 taxation
year. As you may recall Gordon Campbell committed to our community to
allow this taxation before the last election.
