It has been several weeks since I last reported to you. It seems the Japan
trip and all of the issues and meetings here really left me busy.
Firstly, City Council
continues to have discussions with and to make representation to the
provincial government on various issues important to the residents of
Revelstoke. Forest Recreation sites and use of Crown Lands, Court
Services, plans for Moberly Manor, Ferry services, the Big Eddy Floodplain
and Hydro taxation are just some of the matters consuming much of my time
and the time of city staff. There is nothing definite to report in any of
those issues except that the provincial ministries are dialoging with us
and other affected parties trying to find workable solutions.
Locally, we are proceeding
with the Community Energy Project and wish to thank those of you who
attended the Open House and provided your comments and concerns. We have
reason to believe the project will be a real “win – win” solution to the
problem of wood waste disposal in our community.
The Indoor Pool Committee
is stepping up its efforts to educate the public regarding the need for,
and cost of the proposed pool facility. Please read the material provided
and inform yourself about the proposal so that you are prepared to vote in
the referendum in the fall. More information will be forthcoming once
various fund raising activities have been completed so watch for future
updates.
Don’t forget that there
will be a celebration of Canada’s 135th birthday on July 1st. A parade is
planned and festivities will be held at Queen Elizabeth Park. Let’s
congratulate ourselves and celebrate Canada’s peaceful existence in a
world troubled by war, dissension and intolerance.
