It is with regret that we received a letter of resignation from our Fire
Chief, Wade Rota. Wade has done a great job for the community over the
years, and I know his steady hand as the head of the department will be
missed. Wade has told me he had a 5 year plan for the fire department
and that he has achieved his goals. We wish him well in what the future
brings for Wade. We will be advertising to fill that position and can
only hope that the tradition of attracting good Fire Chiefs will once
again hold true.
If you want an
opportunity to win some great prizes you should look at filling out the
City’s air quality survey. The survey is available
here. You can also pick up a
survey at City Hall. Since we are on the topic of air quality, the City
is offering $500.00 cash rebates in a wood stove exchange program. If
you have an older model smoky stove you can look at upgrading to a more
efficient model. Another bonus is these newer models burn less wood,
create more heat, with less smoke.
I did attend the CSRD
meeting last week and was glad to see the Board approve the siting of
septage drying beds at the landfill site. This is still subject to some
environmental testing but hopefully this will be operational in the not
too distant future. This will be a temporary site until we find a
permanent solution. We have until October 2009 to find that new site and
get it passed through all of the regulatory process. This temporary site
would not have been possible without the cooperation of the Ministry of
Environment, Interior Health, Columbia Shuswap Regional District and the
City of Revelstoke.
This past week saw a
variety of meetings for me to attend, ranging from Planner interviews,
Energy Corporation, Development Cost Charges, CSRD Official Community
Plan, BC Hydro, Council Meeting, CSRD Board meeting, opening of the
Skytrek Adventure park, and meeting with the Minister of Forests
Roundtable.
