ADMINISTRATION

  Mayor's Report
May 3, 2002

My apologies for not reporting to you last week but as you are aware, it was the busiest and most stressful week since I became Mayor. Council has met several times to discuss the closing of Moberly Manor and I have arranged for the Health Authority to meet with the Residents Council and families. I also requested a meeting of the Authority with City Council so we are able to question the administration directly regarding the reasons for the closure and the preparation or lack thereof for alternative care for Moberly residents.

I have also spent considerable time and effort in trying to resolve the court services issue. I have advised the Attorney General and the Premier that we cannot resolve the court services issue without dealing with the management of the Courthouse. As I said last time, as soon as I know something further I will advise you.

During this week, Councillor Frew and I attended the Okanagan Mainline Municipal Association convention at Silver Star. I was able to talk to Alan Dolman, Chair of the Regional Health Authority, and the Premier who has requested that various Ministries liaise with us in regard to the taxation of the Hydro facility, court services and ferry issues. It was well worth the effort to attend the conference.
