Council was pleased this week to attend at the Downie Sawmill for a tour
of the operations. We are really fortunate that the owners have invested
in the latest in technology so that the mill is competitive in these
uncertain economic times. Ross and Ron Gorman were here to provide us with
information on the plans for further improvement this year. There is no
truth to the rumour circulating in the City that the mill is going to
close because of the softwood lumber issue with the USA.
I’d like to remind you to
take the time to respond to the survey regarding the proposed budget for
the year 2002. If you don’t have the form you can get all the information
you need at City Hall (or fill it
out online). We really do like to get feedback.
The Community Energy
project is continuing to move ahead. Both Downie and the City are very
anxious to resolve the matter of disposal of wood waste.
If any of you in business
are going to be affected by the proposed ferry tolls or reduced hours,
please make sure you set out your concerns in writing and forward them to
the Ministry of Transportation with a copy to me at the City of
Revelstoke, PO Box 170.
