  Mayor's Report
March 8, 2002

This week started out as a rather quiet one in terms of my meeting schedule but quickly turned into a normal busy one.

Council held a lengthy budget meeting on Wednesday and with some cuts to some areas and additional costs in others, it looks as though we may be able to finalize the budget for 2002 with a 2.5% increase in taxes. The draft budget will now be presented to you by newsletter and on the website. Please review it and give us your written comments.

I am continuing to gather information regarding the costs of delivery of court services in Revelstoke with the hope that some compromise solution can be achieved. I am continuing to make it clear that we will NOT pay for travel and costs for RCMP officers to attend court in Salmon Arm.

Today marks the official opening of our new policing facility which is long overdue. If you miss the Open House, I’m sure you can get a quick overview by stopping by to welcome our peace officers to the downtown core. I have high expectations that both you, the citizens, and the detachment officers will work towards fuller co-operation in pro-active policing now that there is the opportunity for greater interaction between you.
