I had opportunity to meet with Mr. Tony Macoun, Head of School for
Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School, during his visit to Revelstoke on February
14th. He asked that I convey heartfelt appreciation to the people of
Revelstoke for the way in which the community responded to the avalanche
tragedy. They are very grateful to the residents of such a caring
community and for the professional rescue and emergency system that exists
here.
The City continues its
negotiations for purchase of the courthouse. The main idea is to bring
court services back to Revelstoke.
I met with John Chapman,
Director of Orphan Boy Resources, and was very impressed with his outlook
about the future possibilities of the mining industry. I certainly look
forward to further discussions with company representatives about the Big
Bend Metals Project and participation in having the proposed venture
recognized and supported for the Revelstoke area.
At the UBCM Convention in
September 2002, former Councillor Tony Scarcella won a $1,000 community
scholarship from BC Hydro for a Revelstoke Grade 12 student committed to
pursue public post-secondary education in any field. The scholarship
application information is currently available at the Administration
Office of City Hall or by visiting BC Hydro’s web site at
www.bchydro.com/scholarships. Good luck to all those who apply.
The Mayor’s Report will
become a regular event with City Councillors also participating.
