ADMINISTRATION

  Mayor's Report
January 18, 2002

I am thankful that things were slow over the Christmas break because I am right back to a very full schedule again.

Council, through Public Works, is actively pursuing a solution to the sewage lagoon problems which we believe is caused by putting septage in with the sewage. No longer will any dumping of septage be allowed to take place into our sewage system and, therefore, we need to find a suitable dumping location. A study has been commissioned to provide us with options for the disposal of septage. Hopefully we will then have no re-occurrence of the terrible odour problem at the sewage lagoon.

We were all shocked to learn of the closure of court services in Revelstoke effective June 1, 2002. I have sent a letter to the Attorney General expressing our concern over the necessity for travel as we live in a rather isolated location. As a Council, we are also concerned about the effect on policing and policing costs. It seems these kinds of cost-reduction solutions are very short-sighted!

Please stop by City Hall to have a look at the beautiful art work provided by the efforts of the Revelstoke Arts Council. It really brightens up the stairwell to Council Chambers and administration offices.
