This week has seen a public hearing on the bulk removal of land from the
Agricultural Land Reserve. This is only for parcels of land inside the
city limits and only for those property owners who are in support of their
land being removed from the ALR. After hearing no negative comments
Council passed a motion in support of the removal.
Tuesday and Wednesday saw
numerous meetings with the Interior Health Authority as they showed what
may be the future of health care in Revelstoke. They had an all day open
house at the hospital with 3 public presentations that saw quite a few
people with questions and concerns. The Health Advisory Committee set up
by myself and Council will be taking a fact-finding trip to Kelowna to
look first hand at their facilities for Assisted Living and residential
care and how they are delivered to the community. The committees' next
task will be to start narrowing down which proposed option for health care
services it feels is needed and acceptable to the community. Members of
this committee deserve thanks from the community for the time and
commitment they are giving to ensure we get the level of service necessary
to fill the needs of the community. The committee also needs you to be
informed and available to help if necessary. Please keep informed of the
issues and any feedback to the committee can be sent to
this address.
For the next few weeks you
may see that we have some Korean visitors in town, please give them a
Revelstoke Welcome. They are here to learn English and skiing with our
English language school.
Last week I reported that
Council and senior staff spent all day in a retreat to talk about goals
and objectives for the coming year. It was a very good session and I know
that we have made some very good progress on last year's retreat and feel
confident that the next two years will be very productive for the
community. Thanks to everyone for giving up their day off to make this
city a better place to live, work, and do business. One of the bigger
topics is how the city can work through all the extra jobs associated with
the ski hill master plan and associated approvals. This is a topic that
will only be getting bigger as it unfolds. We will keep the community
informed as much as possible
