ADMINISTRATION

  Mayor's Report
January 11, 2002

As this is my first report of the New Year, I wish all of you a very Happy New Year. Council is looking forward to completing the RCMP building, holding the Swimming Pool referendum and continuing to work with Mt. Mackenzie Resort Ltd. to further develop the local ski hill. We expect to meet with representatives of MMRL very soon and understand they are proceeding further with efforts to develop the ski hill “Master Plan”.

Please keep some time available on March 8, 2002, to attend the Official Opening of the new RCMP Facility. There will be an opportunity for the public to tour the building and see how the space is used.

Council continues to pursue the issue of property taxation for Crown Corporations (i.e. BC Hydro). Premier Campbell promised that Crown Corporations would be subject to taxation and we intend to hold him to that promise. We presently receive a Grant-in-lieu of taxes but it is not tied to our taxation/assessment base and does not increase at the time that your taxes increase and we feel this is an important issue for us.

I will be meeting with the new Chief Operating Officer for our area of the new Interior Health Authority, Ken Burrows. I will report further regarding how we are to have input into the workings of such a huge Authority.
