Revelstoke Fire Department responds to gas leak
Revelstoke, BC – At 9:03 a.m., Revelstoke Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a gas line struck. Upon arrival, crews discovered a severed two-inch propane distribution line venting gas uncontrollably.
Firefighters quickly initiated safety protocols, notifying and evacuating nearby residents or advising them to shelter in place. In coordination with FortisBC, the Fire Chief ordered a temporary shutdown of hydro power in the area to reduce the risk of ignition or explosion while crews worked to contain the leak.
Once the gas line was isolated, fire crews conducted thorough checks of homes and businesses to ensure no hazardous propane concentrations remained.
By 12:26 p.m., electrical power was restored, fire crews returned to service, and FortisBC remained on scene to complete repairs.
