[ARCHIVED] Cannabis Regulatory Framework

cannabis-logo

The City of Revelstoke is embarking on a planning process to develop local regulations for medical and non-medical sales and production in response to the federal government’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations, as well as legalization of recreational cannabis on October 17th, 2018.

The intent of this project is to get ahead of impending legalization and ensure proper zoning and associated regulation (i.e. business licensing, Clean Air Bylaw) is in place for cannabis-related businesses.  It will take dedicated effort to create and implement a new licensing and enforcement regime, in time (or shortly thereafter) for legalization on October 17th. Regulations will cover where cannabis-related businesses can locate as well as additional requirements for municipal approval such as buffers from facilities catering to youth, application processing fees and distances from other cannabis-related businesses.  Because the City’s Zoning Bylaw does not speak to zoning for medical marijhuana sales and production, this will also be covered.
