Public CPR Training- FREE!

The Life Saving Society is partnering with the Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance Service and the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada to put on a mass public CPR training session in BC/Yukon for CPR Month in November. Revelstoke has signed up as an affiliate for this mass event and would like you to join us in a one hour basic training. We are hoping to train as many people as possible in compression—only CPR and basic AED use. This basic training can save lives!

Synchronized Swimming

Aqua Squirts

A play-based water orientation program that helps develop basic swimming skills and synchro skills in a creative and imaginative atmosphere.

Date: Fridays, October 20th- March 2nd   *no class Oct 31, Feb 16, or during Christmas Holidays Dec 18-Jan 5*

Recreational & Competitive Star Program

Rec/ Pre-competitive is for swimmers eager to learn the sport of synchronized swimming, or for those wanting take their skills and experience to the next level. The program starts with basic skills and moves to more advanced techniques as swimmers progress through the Star Program levels. Swimmers will learn all the fundamental skills, basic figures and their parts, and be introduced to choreography sequences. This program will continue to develop endurance, strength, speed and flexibility while gaining more advanced synchro skills throughout the season.

Bronze Star & Medallion Combo

Bronze Star is a pre Bronze Medallion training program that helps to prepare candidates for success in Bronze           Medallion. In Bronze Star participants develop problem  solving and decision making skills as individuals and in partners. Candidates develop Water Smart confidence and learn basic lifesaving and resuscitation skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. Includes a 400 metre timed swim.
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: knowledge, judgment, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn advanced lifesaving techniques for challenging rescues of increased risk, involving conscious and unconscious victims in varying water depths. Participants develop stroke efficiency and endurance in timed swims (500 metres). Includes CPR-A.

Pre requisites: Ability to swim 500 m & tread water for 3 minutes

Bronze Cross

Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safety supervision. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs, including National Lifeguard (NL) and Instructor certifications, as well as the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor program. Includes a 600 metre timed swim and CPR-C.

National Lifeguard Program

Recognized as the standard measure of lifeguard performance in Canada, NL education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard.

Prerequisites: Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid, 16 years old by the last day of course.
It is STRONGLY recommended that Standard First Aid be current as first aid will not be retaught during the course.
Dates: Wednesday-Friday March  21 - 30, 2018 (6 sessions)

Lifesaving Instructor (LSI)

The Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) award trains candidates to teach and evaluate the Canadian Swim Patrol Program, the Bronze Medal awards, and a variety of specialized lifesaving programs. Candidates are trained in aspects of learning as well as various approaches required to teach water rescue, first aid and related aquatic skills. Candidates also learn about long-range/short-term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation.

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

The Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Course prepares candidates to instruct Red Cross Swim programs.Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop fitness activities, skills and water safety, and swimming skills in the Red Cross Swim Preschool, Red Cross Swim Kids, Red Cross Swim School, Red Cross Swim Camp, Red Cross Swim for Adults & Teens, and Red Cross Swim Adapted Programs.

Prerequisites: Swim Kids 10 swimming ability, 15 years old by last day of classroom/pool AND
Standard First Aid OR Bronze Cross

WSI Skills Evaluation (includes manual and PIN for WSI Online)
Come familiarized with the WSI certification process, complete your skills evaluation and get set up for WSI Online. Bring your swimsuit.

Standard First Aid with CPR/AED

Comprehensive training covering all  aspects of first aid, CPR and AED use! Whether you need training for employment or simply want to be  prepared to respond to life-threatening emergencies, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to act with confidence. Learn to recognize and treat head and spinal, soft-tissue, facial, abdominal, chest, bone and joint injuries, burns and other common medical emergencies.

Standard First Aid is a prerequisite for taking your National Lifeguard .

Emergency First Aid/ CPR-A

Using hands-on training and practice, this basic first aid course will give you confidence to respond effectively in an emergency. You will learn lifesaving skills such as CPR/AED use and obstructed airway procedures. You will also learn to recognize and respond to respiratory and circulatory emergencies including asthma, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke, and bleeding.
