Lifeguard and Instructor Training
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Course
Prepares candidates to instruct Red Cross Swim programs.

Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and
develop fitness activities, skills and water safety, and swimming skills in the Red Cross Swim Preschool, Red Cross Swim Kids, Red Cross Swim @ School, Red Cross Swim @ Camp, Red Cross Swim for Adults & Teens, and Red Cross Swim Adapted Programs.
Prerequisites: Swim Kids 10 swimming ability, 15 years old by last day of classroom/pool AND Standard First Aid OR Bronze Cross
Dates and Times:
1) Orientation/Pre-skills screening and WSI Online Introduction:
Monday, January 8, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
2) Teach Experience:
Saturdays, January 13th - March 10th
Tues / Thurs, January 16th - February 8th
Tues / Thurs, February 20th - March 15th (During regular lesson times)
3) Skills Screening/ WSI Classroom and Pool:
Thurs / Fri, April 12th & 13th, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Sat / Sun, April 14th & 15th, 10:00 am - 6:30 pm
Cost: $460, includes access to WSI Online and all required resources.
Note: Candidates will require access to a computer and reliable internet connection to complete an online component of the course.
National Lifeguard Program
Recognized as the standard measure of lifeguard performance in Canada, NL education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, with good judgment, and a mature and responsible good attitude toward the role of the lifeguard.
Pre-requisites: Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid and 16 years old by last day of course. We strongly recommend the Standard First Aid is current as first aid will not be re-taught during the course.

Cost: $495.00 (includes lifeguard toolkit and Alert manual)

Bronze Star & Medallion Combo
Bronze Star is a pre Bronze Medallion training program that helps to prepare candidates for success in Bronze Medallion. In Bronze Star participants develop problem solving and decision making skills as individuals and in partners. Candidates develop Water Smart confidence and learn basic lifesaving and resuscitation skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. Includes a 400 metre timed swim.
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of our water rescue education: knowledge, judgment, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn advanced lifesaving techniques for challenging rescues of increased risk, involving conscious and unconscious victims in varying water depths. Participants develop stroke efficiency and endurance in timed swims (500 metres). Includes CPR-A.
Pre requisites: Ability to swim 500 m & tread water for 3 minutes.
